The difference you saw with the 706 as opposed to the 2950, probably has as much to do with installation and propagation at the time you were using the 706 compared to now. Especially if the other station is a DX station! That is just part of running mobile.Īnd to me part of the fun. Other times, I have started out driving and having a good qso and within a couple of miles or so, had the other station go completely away, only to hear them again, a few miles down the road. His signal and mine fluctuated some, but, not that much. (around 8 pm CST) I made a contact with a station in Australia and carried on a conversation for a good 20 minutes while driving home. Conditions were really great, even though it was late in the evening. Last Fall about this time, I was heading home from work and had the radio on 10 meters tuning around. Band conditions also play a big part on how strong your signal is to the other station too. If I make a contact with aĭX station for instance, a lot of times, I'll pull over in a safe place, and hopefully one where the signal strength seems I run a ICOM 706 MKIIG in my pickup and a Tarheel 100a HP and see the exact same thing while in motion. Ground under your vehicle changes and that effects reception on your end and what the station you are in qso with hears.
The problem with the radio seeming to not work as good while in motion as stationary, is because the antenna is in motion. (just not a good investment)Ĭlick to expand. The trees you are driving around won't really effect your signal at HF frequencies. And you will have access to more than one or two bands.Īs we both know the 2950's intended audience is CB'er's and freebanders. Even a usedĪlinco DX-70T ( I recently sold a nice one for $300 at a local hamfest) is a MUCH better radio than theĢ950 will ever be. But,Īt some point in time, you should seriously consider replacing the 2950 with a good HF rig. Getting a PROPER alignment for the radio will help the most.
#Powerband rfx 150 plus#
(they sell them here locally in some CB shops for $40 plus installation)īetter to use what you have as it is. It (the RFX-75) is an intended add-on for CB radios. That you will receive a lot of complaints over. But, with the RFX-75 will cause all kinds of interference to others, (both in band and out) The 2950's are not too terribly badįor what they are. Output that will make any difference to anyone on the receiving end. The RFX-75 will create many more problems than it will solve.
